EDUCATION - Educate yourself about your healthcare needs and educate your healthcare provider about your personal needs.

ADVOCATE - Advocate for yourself to access quality, nondiscriminatory health care and health information.

LANGUAGE - Seek out and ask for medical information to be put in language that you can understand.  If you don’t understand something your healthcare provider has said to you, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification.

TIME - Take the time before your healthcare visit to prepare.  Given that healthcare visits are shorter today, be sure to do your homework, write down all of your questions and concerns, and make the most of your visit.
